Every Opportunity Needs a Next Step.
A good CRM record should make it clear what happens next, who is responsible and when follow-up is due.
A useful CRM record should not stop with what happened. It should also show what happens next.
Record the outcome.
After a call, appraisal, enquiry or meeting, add a short note covering:
What was discussed
What was agreed
Any important timing
What needs to happen next
Keep it clear and brief.
Set the next action.
If follow-up is needed, create it while the conversation is still fresh.
For example:
Call next Tuesday
Send an updated appraisal
Follow up after auction
Check whether finance is approved
Contact again in three months
Send recent comparable sales
Do not rely on memory.
Give the follow-up a date.
“Call later” is not a useful task.
A clear date makes the opportunity easier to manage and less likely to be forgotten.
Keep ownership clear.
If another team member needs to act, make sure the task is assigned correctly.
Everyone should be able to see who is responsible.
Close the loop.
When the follow-up is completed, record the outcome and decide what happens next.
The opportunity may:
Move forward
Need another follow-up
Move to long-term nurture
Be closed
No longer be relevant
The important part is that the record stays current.
A simple habit can make a big difference:
Finish every important CRM update by asking, “What happens next?”
